Canon PIXMA MG3140 Setup Guide

1. Unboxing the Printer

  • Carefully remove the printer from the box and place it on a stable surface.
  • Remove all protective packaging materials.
  • Locate the power cord and connect it to the printer and a power outlet.

2. Installing Cartridges

  • Open the front cover of the printer by lifting it up.
  • Remove the orange protective caps from the new FINE cartridges.
  • Insert the black cartridge into the left slot and the color cartridge into the right slot.
  • Press down on both cartridges until they snap into place.

3. Installing Software

  • Insert the Canon setup CD into your computer’s CD drive.
  • If the autorun prompt does not appear, locate the setup file on the CD and double-click it.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software installation.
  • Once the software is installed, launch the Canon IJ Setup Tool.

4. Connecting to the Computer

Wi-Fi Connection

  • Ensure your computer and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • On the printer, press the Wi-Fi button (blue icon) and hold it for 3 seconds. The Wi-Fi indicator light should start flashing blue.
  • On the computer, open the Canon IJ Setup Tool and select “Wireless Connection.”
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

USB Connection

  • Connect the printer to your computer using the provided USB cable.
  • On the computer, open the Canon IJ Setup Tool and select “USB Connection.”
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the USB connection.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Printer Not Responding

  • Check if the printer is turned on and connected to a power source.
  • Unplug the printer and wait 10 seconds before plugging it back in.
  • Restart your computer.

Poor Print Quality

  • Inspect the FINE cartridges and ensure they are properly seated.
  • Clean the print heads by running a “Cleaning Head” cycle in the printer’s software.
  • Use high-quality paper suitable for your printer.

Wi-Fi Connection Problems

  • Make sure your printer and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Check if the Wi-Fi indicator light on the printer is flashing or illuminated. If it’s flashing, the printer is not connected to a network.
  • Reset the printer’s Wi-Fi settings by pressing and holding the Wi-Fi button for 5 seconds.

USB Connection Problems

  • Ensure the USB cable is properly connected to both the printer and your computer.
  • Try using a different USB cable.
  • Restart your computer.
