Setting Up the Canon PIXMA E500 Printer
Materials:
- Canon PIXMA E500 printer
- Ink cartridges (black and color)
- Power cord
- USB cable (optional)
Step 1: Unpack the Printer
- Remove the printer from the box and packaging.
- Check the contents for the printer, ink cartridges, power cord, setup CD, and other accessories.
Step 2: Install Ink Cartridges
- Open the ink cartridge cover.
- Remove the orange protective covers from the cartridges.
- Insert the black cartridge into the left slot and the color cartridge into the right slot.
- Close the ink cartridge cover.
Step 3: Connect the Power
- Plug the power cord into the printer and a power outlet.
- The printer will turn on automatically.

Step 6: Print a Test Page
- Press the “Copy” button on the printer.
- A test page will print. If the print quality is satisfactory, your printer is ready to use.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Printer Won’t Turn On
- Check that the power cord is properly connected to the printer and the power outlet.
- Make sure the power switch is turned on.
- Unplug the printer for a few minutes and then plug it back in.
Paper Jam
- Open the top cover of the printer.
- Gently remove any jammed paper.
- Reload the paper correctly and close the top cover.
Print Quality Issues
- Check that the ink cartridges are properly installed and have enough ink.
- Clean the print heads using the maintenance utility in the driver software.
- Try using a different paper type or weight.
Printer Not Detected
- Ensure that the USB cable (if used) is properly connected to the printer and the computer.
- Try restarting the computer and the printer.
- Update the printer drivers.
Error Codes
- Error 001: Jammed paper. Clear the paper jam.
- Error 002: Ink cartridge not installed or not recognized. Reinstall the ink cartridge.
- Error 003: Ink cartridges empty. Replace the ink cartridges.
